Family Day 2008 Recap |

The
Office of Parent and Family Programs
hosted Family Day 2008, in conjunction
with Homecoming, Saturday February 2,
2008. Parents and families were invited
to spend the day with their student, and
participate in activities centered on
Family Day and Homecoming.
The day
started with the Chancellor Breakfast at
the Miltimore-Wallis Athletic Training
and Academic Center. Over 300 students,
parents, families and guests were able
to partake in an exceptional buffet
breakfast. During the breakfast program
the parents and families were able to
meet, learned about UNC Charlotte from
Chancellor Dubois, Arthur Jackson; Vice
Chancellor for Student Affairs, Niles
Sorenson; Vice Chancellor of Development
and Alumni Affairs, and Dr. Michele
Howard, Dean of Students. Justin Richie,
the Student Body President also spoke
about the student spirit of UNC
Charlotte. Many outstanding prizes;
including a dell lap top computer, one
semester’s free tuition and parking, a
week in the Chancellor’s reserved space,
a $500.00 gift certificate from the Book
store and other UNC Charlotte
merchandise.
After the
breakfast parents and families had a
variety of programs they could attend:
presentations by the Dean of Students
Office, Police and Public Safety,
University of Academic Excellence and
the University Career Center. Parents
and families also receive a campus
walking tour, or a tour of the new
Student Health Center. In addition, over
seventy parents visited the Atkins
Library to enjoy some North Carolina
gourmet coffee, check their e-mail,
listen to music, take a tour or
participate in all the various
interactive programming available. A
pre-game lunch buffet was held in the
SAC salons.
UNC
Charlotte basketball team played the
Richmond Spyders at 3:00pm. During
halftime the Homecoming Court announced.
The winners are:
Ms. Freshman-Brittany
Hill, Mr. Freshman-Travis Christian, Ms.
Sophmore-Jackquelynne Locklear-McLeod,
Ms. Junior-Danielle Anderson, Mr.
Junior-Chris Cooper, Homecoming
Queen-Amanda Isaacs and Homecoming King,
Brandon Kirkley.
