Family Day 2008 Recap

The Office of Parent and Family Programs hosted Family Day 2008, in conjunction with Homecoming, Saturday February 2, 2008. Parents and families were invited to spend the day with their student, and participate in activities centered on Family Day and Homecoming.

The day started with the Chancellor Breakfast at the Miltimore-Wallis Athletic Training and Academic Center. Over 300 students, parents, families and guests were able to partake in an exceptional buffet breakfast. During the breakfast program the parents and families were able to meet, learned about UNC Charlotte from Chancellor Dubois, Arthur Jackson; Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Niles Sorenson; Vice Chancellor of Development and Alumni Affairs, and Dr. Michele Howard, Dean of Students. Justin Richie, the Student Body President also spoke about the student spirit of UNC Charlotte. Many outstanding prizes; including a dell lap top computer, one semester’s free tuition and parking, a week in the Chancellor’s reserved space, a $500.00 gift certificate from the Book store and other UNC Charlotte merchandise.

After the breakfast parents and families had a variety of programs they could attend: presentations by the Dean of Students Office, Police and Public Safety, University of Academic Excellence and the University Career Center. Parents and families also receive a campus walking tour, or a tour of the new Student Health Center. In addition, over seventy parents visited the Atkins Library to enjoy some North Carolina gourmet coffee, check their e-mail, listen to music, take a tour or participate in all the various interactive programming available. A pre-game lunch buffet was held in the SAC salons.
